Fried Halloumi with honey and black sesame | Halloumi recipes

Fried Halloumi with honey and black sesame is so easy I feel a bit naughty even categorising this as a Halloumi recipe!

Fried Halloumi is the famous Cypriot cheese is fabulous to cook with; its strong enough to hold up to some heat without melting away and I think tastes even better with a little charring to bring out some other flavours in the cheese.

Halloumi is naturally a salty cheese (usually stored in a brine) which is why it works wonders when complimented with something sweet; in this instance honey. The black sesame seeds add a nice little bit of crunch and texture (and look pretty!) sprinkled on top.

Fried Halloumi can be great on it’s own (it’s fabulous by the way on the BBQ) but with a few extra seconds you can really have some fun with it. I really like my fried Halloumi with honey and black sesame if I want a really light lunch or as a side dish with some other small plates of food.

How to cook Halloumi is endless – you can grill Halloumi or even griddle Halloumi, but if you just want something quick to eat then pop it into a hot frying pan and you’re good to go! There’s not much I can say about this – just have a go and enjoy!

Fried Halloumi Recipe with Honey and Black Sesame Seeds

Ingredients:

250g Halloumi cheese

1 tbl olive oil

3 tbl honey

1 tbl black sesame seeds

Method:

  1. Cut the Halloumi length ways just under an inch thick (be generous!)
  2. Fry the slices in a hot frying pan with a little olive oil until charred (will only take 30-60 seconds each side) don’t overcook or it will dry out.
  3. Lay the Halloumi cheese out on a platter, drizzle over the honey, scattering of sesame seeds (you could throw in a pinch of chilli flakes as well) and eat!

Goes great on it’s own or part of a meze!
