Sheredes School Annual Masterchef Competition 2016

Sheredes School Annual Masterchef Competition 2016

Every year I go back to Sheredes (my old school) and we hold an Annual (unofficial) Masterchef competition.

It’s really good fun, we do a demo day a month before the competition day where I come into the school and demo a few dishes to inspire the kids. The themes change each year but ultimately it is easy, healthy and quick!

Something the kids can do and enjoy doing!

A month later the kids arrive (by the dozens!) and create their own dishes, we award the winners and it’s a great day!

This is the third year we’ve held the competition and it’s great!

Here’s what the Sheredes School Newsletter had to say:

“On Wednesday we held our Annual Master Chef competition here at Sheredes school and it was brilliant success. We welcomed our former student and competitor of the real Master chef Theo Michaels to our school again to observe and judge the students as they worked amazingly hard preparing their dishes, some inspired by Theo’s former creations, others their own original ideas.

Being given the list of ingredients as a base, it was clear to see that everyone had really thought about their dish and had prepared well. The atmosphere in food tech was great and the hard working attitude of every student was a pleasure to see. There were some very creative ideas including rice accompanied by prawns, designed in the shape of Olaf, the snowman from Frozen. In addition, we also had a fish dish served with a Parsley sauce and even Homemade Guacamole!

It was clear that Theo found it to be a very tough decision to choose a winner as the variety and standards of each dish was exceptional. Each child or pair was marked on a variety of aspects, ranging from taste to preparation and their designed menu cards. He was unable to decide on one winner alone, choosing two girls who he believed had the best tasting dishes and scored the highest overall. These winners were Mariachiara Russo (Year 7) with her Courgette

Pasta made completely from scratch and Ellie Wood (Year 7) with her Paella. Both girls did extremely well and were very successful with their dishes.

Overall everyone did remarkably and their enthusiasm was inspiring to see. Well done to everyone that took part and a big thank you to Theo for returning to our school for this great event, as well as all the food tech staff who helped to make this happen. It was also very nice to see many parents there to support their children as this is always encouraged here at Sheredes. The Master Chef competition is a wonderful experience and I hope that this is continued annually as it a fun and educational experience for the students, staff and parents.

* Special thanks to Morrisons (Hoddesdon) for donating funds towards the ingredients for this amazing event.”
